The Benefit of Tea Tree Oil

Melaleuca alternifolia, or we known as tea tree is a small tree native to Queensland and New South Wales, Australia. Tea tree oil has been used as traditional medicine by Aborigines by crush the leaves to extract the oil, which is then inhaled to treat coughs and colds or applied directly to skin area for healing.

Tea Tree oil is a very common ingredient uses effectively to kill bacteria, germs, or any viruses, because it contains a number of compound, including terpinen-4-ol. That compound also appears to increase the activity of white blood cells, which help fight germs.

This essential oil can be used for several purposes, such as keeping skin, or hair healthy. Tea tree oil is a valued natural remedy for treating bacteria and fungal conditions, preventing infection, and promoting healing. Another uses and benefits of this versatile oil is as hand sanitizer, insect repellent, natural deodorant, antiseptic for minor cuts and scrapes, boost wound healing, fight acne, get rid of nail fungus, chemical free mouthwash, all purpose cleaner, etc.

Tea tree oil can be dissolved in water or used full strength. It is also available in the form of ointments, creams, lotions, and soap. When used to treat infections and skin conditions, the oil can be applied directly to the skin in full strength or diluted form using cotton swabs. The oil can also be found in deodorants, shampoos, soaps, antiseptic first-aid creams, cosmetics, and household cleaning products.

Tea tree oil should never be taken internally. For colds and other respiratory illnesses, the oil is added to a vaporizer so that the mist can be inhaled. Drops of the oil can be added to bath water. The oil is sometimes mixed in water as a mouthwash. Highly concentrated (full strength) tea tree oil may cause skin irritation even in people who are not allergic to the oil. These people may have less of a problem with more diluted oils. Some tea tree oil preparations contain other ingredients as well, some of which may cause irritation, allergy, or rash on their own.

Tea tree oil is toxic when swallowed. It has been reported to cause drowsiness, confusion, hallucinations, coma, unsteadiness, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, blood cell abnormalities, and severe rashes. It should be kept away from pets and children.
